Men's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Freshman Olimjon Nabiev walked away from the Southern Miss Fall Invitational as the only undefeated Golden Eagle on the men's tennis team. Nabiev has won each of his five singles matches this season and went the distance in both of his matches this weekend, winning in three sets.

"I am proud of the fight our team showed this weekend," said Southern Miss head coach Zubin Engineer. "A lot of our matches went three sets or were very close, so it's great to see everyone playing at a high level."

Southern Miss' hidden dual against UAB and South Alabama started on Saturday morning with doubles play versus the Blazers. The Blazers took all three doubles matches as the Golden Eagles responded in the third wave of matches with a win from Antoine Audrain and Dhruv Sunish against South Alabama. Both Alan Sanson/Alexander Gima and Christopher Cahour/Pasawee Reansuwong fell 7-6 to the Jaguars. Audrain, Gima, and Nabiev each won their afternoon singles matches. Gima outlasted UAB's Vojtech Podzemny in three sets, 3-6,6-2, 6-3. Nabiev also took his in three sets, defeating South Alabama's Max St-Hilaire, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. Cahour and Jirapoomdaje dropped their singles matches in three sets, while Sunish fell to South Alabama's Louis Delcour in straight sets.

The Golden Eagles regrouped on Sunday, winning three of their six doubles matches. Cahour/Audrain and Gima/Jirapoomdaje knocked off two Blazer pairs in the first wave before Gima/Reansuwong defeated a Jaguars pair to close out doubles play for the weekend. Nabiev and Jack Clements of South Alabama went point-for-point in their singles match, but Nabiev escaped with a 9-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) win. Cahour bested Martin Vasquez in confining fashion, winning 6-1, 6-0.
