Women's Golf Returns to Alabama for Hoover Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team heads back to Alabama for the second consecutive tournament as they prepare for the Hoover Classic in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day event is being held at Heatherwood Golf and Country Club. Previously scheduled for the Hoover Country Club, the event was moved acrosss town due to heavy amounts of rain throughout the Birmingham area.
Monday's 9 a.m. shotgun start features 36 holes of play and Tuesday's final round will be 18. The par 72 course will play 5,839 yards. Southern Miss' lineup consists of Elena Melich, Tenley Moretti, Momoka Ando, Merche Corbacho and Friend Chompitakdacha.Â
The Golden Eagles opened their 2021-22 campaign two weeks ago at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. They placed 14th out of 17 teams with Chompitakdacha leading the way on the scorecard. The junior finished T29 after firing a team-low 69 in the second round. Melich fired a 221 (T32) and Corbacho finished with a 225 (T55). Moretti and Ando will both be making their first appearances this season.Â
