BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's golf team utilized their lowest 54-hole total since 2018 to finish in fourth place at the Hoover Classic in Birmingham, Ala. Collectively, the Golden Eagles totaled 894 strokes with Momoka Ando (76-72-73-221) sitting tied for eighth following her first outing sporting the Black and Gold.Â
"With a last-minute change of venue, we handled adversity really well this week," said Southern Miss head women's golf coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "I'm really proud of Momoka [Ando] for how she stayed composed all week.
"It's not easy playing in your first event, much less 36 holes in chaotic conditions. As a group we continue to learn and grow every time we tee it up, so the rest of this fall should be fun to watch."
Not far behind Ando, junior Friend Chompitakdacha finished tied for 14th after firing a four-over par 76 in her final round. Freshman Elena Melich finished tied for 24th after firing a three-over 75 during her final round today. A day after recording the second-lowest score in program history, Merche Corbacho carded an eight-over par 80 to finished tied for 29th. The final Golden Eagle in the clubhouse was Tenley Moretti, who carded a three-over 75 during her final round to finish tied for 33.Â
The Golden Eagles' 894 is the lowest 54-hole score since the 2018 Pat Bradley Invitational where they tallied 873 strokes.Â
Next up for Southern Miss is a trip to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Sage Meadows Country Club scheduled for Oct. 11-12.Â
