Hattiesburg, Miss. – After having last season's outdoor championships canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the men and women of Southern Miss track and field will make their return to the outdoor postseason at the 2021 C-USA Outdoor Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The meet will take place May 13-16 at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
"We're excited to head to Murfreesboro," head coach Jon Stuart said. "This is the culmination of all of our efforts for the season. We're excited to put it all together this week. We have one meet that means everything to us in the outdoor season, that's the conference championships. We're going to be at our best. The kids are feeling good and I'm eager to see the marks that we produce."
Marquasha Myers will open the competition for the Golden Eagles, as she takes part in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday.
Isabella Simonelli and Joe Wager will open weekend for the Black and Gold with the hammer throw on Friday morning, while Lina May and Carlin Beal compete in the 10,000m at 8 p.m.
The competition heats up on Saturday with the finals of the discus, long jump and men's high jump on the field side, while the prelims of the 100m-1500m will take place on the track. Sarah Parnell and Cassidy Teuscher close the action on Saturday with the 3000m steeplechase final.
On Sunday, shot put, triple jump, javelin, and women's high jump compete for the field events, while the finals of the 100m-1500m will take place, as well as the 4x100, 4x400 and 5000m finals.
