Golden Eagles Close Regular Season Strong at Maroon and White Invite

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Southern Miss track and field team posted multiple personal bests in their final meet of the regular season at the Maroon and White Invite hosted by Mississippi State University at the Mike Sanders Track and Field Complex on Friday and Saturday.
"We made some progress with some season-bests from Vivette Green, Trinity Flagler, Angel Williams and Marquasha Myers to name a few," head coach Jon Stuart said. "Everyone is rounding into shape to make a push for the postseason in a few weeks."
Corvell Todd and Eric Richards got things started for the Golden Eagles on Friday, as the dynamic duo finished second and third in the high jump. Todd finished second after clearing the bar on his first attempt at 7' 1", while Richards finished third after clearing the bar on his first attempt at 6' 11". The pair has yet to finish lower than third in a meet this season.
Trinity Flagler put together her best performance of the season with a time of 24.70 in the 200m to finish in second place, while Angel Williams closed out the big performances on Friday with a second place finish in the long jump, leaping 19' 9.75" for a new personal-best.
The Black and Gold kept momentum rolling into Saturday, as Flagler, Octavia Cato, Vivette Green and Trinity Benson combined to win the 4x100 with a time of 45.65.
Freshman standout Cassidy Teuscher moved into 10th all-time in program history in the 1500m dash with a personal-best time of 4:34.40 to finish fifth, while Marquasha Myers joined Teuscher in rewriting the record book with a third place finish in the 100m hurdles moving into third all-time in the event with a PR of 13.80. Myers day wasn't done as she took first in the triple jump, just missing a new personal-best with a leap of 41' 1.75".
The Golden Eagles picked up their third event title of the day with Tyler Proctor taking home his first career event win in the triple jump.
After taking gold in the 4x100 relay, Green and Benson finished second and third in the 100m dash, with Green finishing with a new PR of 11.78.
Landon Chalden continues to shine in his debut outdoor season, as the Biloxi native won the 400m hurdles for the second time and has finished in the top three in all five outdoor meets this season.
The Golden Eagles now turn their attention to the postseason and the Conference USA Championships. The meet will be hosted by Middle Tennessee on May 13-16 from Murfreesboro, Tenn.
