HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Women's Tennis has made its final preparations for the coveted C-USA Championships, which begins Thursday at 9 a.m. CT against Middle Tennessee. North Texas is the host of the event.
If the seventh-seeded Black and Gold win that battle, they will face No. 2 Rice at 10 a.m. Friday. Comprehensive tournament coverage is available through C-USA's Championship Central page.
The Golden Eagles earned a 4-3 win against the Blue Raiders on their home court back on March 7 when Stephanie Booth won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 on No. 5 to clinch it. Other singles wins included Katia de la Garza (No. 1), Monique Burton (No. 3) and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan (No. 4) after the Golden Eagles lost the doubles point.
That win also kicked off the team's current five-match streak, and Southern Miss' 3-1 record against C-USA foes marks its most in the league since 2013.
The squad also got good news this week when Sarah Medik was named to Conference USA's All-Academic team. The Dornbirn, Austria, native is majoring in international business and has a 4.0 GPA in addition to her stellar season. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan remains the leader with an 8-1 singles record. Suhana Das and Katia de la Garza are 6-1 and 6-2 in doubles, respectively.
The Golden Eagles are also seeking their first tournament victory since 2016, when they defeated UTEP before ultimately falling to Charlotte.
