HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The jam-packed spring for the Southern Miss beach volleyball team continues this weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala., where the Golden Eagles will face No. 4 Florida State (9 a.m.) and Tulane (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday, followed by No. 7 TCU on Sunday (10:30 a.m.).
There is also a fourth match at either 12:30 or 2 p.m. Sunday against one of those teams as well, a change in the original format after No. 3 LSU had to withdraw due to COVID-19 protocols.
The Golden Eagles have faced each of these teams once before, falling each time. The Seminoles and Horned Frogs took 5-0 decisions over the first two weekends, while the Green Wave fell on No. 1 to Kylie Grandy and Abbey Wilson as part of a 4-1 road win on April 3.
Southern Miss' only other trip to Gulf Shores was March 8-9, 2019, its inaugural season.
Grandy and Wilson are currently ranked No. 18 among national pairs, boasting an 18-11 record. The pair had two wins over No. 19 Georgia State last weekend, another two against No. 16 South Carolina and one more versus No. 14 FIU. The duo clinched the UNO match Tuesday after rallying from a 13-10 deficit in the final set.
Breleigh Favre and Kellie Garraway each went 2-0 in Tuesday's action, including a three-setter against New Orleans. It marked their second-straight in such fashion, also coming at home against UAB on April 3.
Haley Hop and Hallie Phelan also won both of Tuesday's matches in what was their first action together since March 20, a span of 15 contests.
This will also mark the team's final prep before the CCSA Championships, April 23-25 in Huntsville, Ala.
