Softball Falls to UTSA on Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (20-18, 2-6 C-USA) fell to UTSA in Sunday's doubleheader at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. UTSA swept the series, 4-0.
Game One
The Golden Eagles fell to the Roadrunners 3-0 in game one.
The Roadrunners took an early lead in the second inning, plating two runs on two hits. Both the Golden Eagles and the Roadrunners would remain scoreless until the seventh when UTSA scored on a double.
Southern Miss had a slow start to game one offensively and ended the game with two hits from seniors Alyssa Davis and Destini Brown.
Morgan Leinstock earned the start for the Golden Eagles, pitching six innings before being relieved by junior Makenna Pierce. Leinstock recorded seven strikeouts and allowed six hits. Leinstock moves to 5-4 on the season.
Game Two
The Golden Eagles dropped game two to the Roadrunners, 7-2.
The Roadrunners scored in the third and sixth inning of the contest, accruing seven runs on seven hits.
The Golden Eagles would send three pitchers to the circle before the game was decided. Junior Kaylan Ladner started the game for Southern Miss and gave way to Makenna Pierce in the third inning. M. Pierce would pitch until the sixth before being relieved by Leinstock. Ladner (9-5) suffered the loss.
Amber Pack provided the offense for the Golden Eagles, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that narrowed the Roadrunners lead to five.
The Golden Eagles would not overcome the deficit and fell to the Roadrunners in the series finale.
Next Time Out
Southern Miss will face Mississippi State on Wednesday, April 14 in Starkville, Miss. The two teams met previously this season, and the result was a 2-1 victory for the Bulldogs.
