Softball Travels to Mississippi State on Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (20-18, 2-4 C-USA) will travel to Starkville, Miss. for a single midweek game Wednesday night (April 14) against Mississippi State (20-16, 0-9 SEC) at 6:00 p.m.
Last Time on the Diamond
The Golden Eagles are coming off of a four-game skid versus conference opponent UTSA. The Eagles fell four games to the Roadrunners. Senior Amber Pack recorded her second home run of the season in game two of Sunday's doubleheader.
Golden Eagles to Watch
The Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs have met 19 times in program history. The Bulldogs leads the series with an all-time record of 16-3.
The Last Meeting
The two teams met last on March 31 in Hattiesburg. Freshman Karsen Pierce hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1. The game would remain tied through nine innings of play but before the Bulldogs claimed victory 2-1.
The Opponent
Mississippi State is led by Head Coach Samantha Ricketts, who is currently in her second season at the helm of the Bulldogs' softball program. Ricketts has been on the Mississippi State coaching staff since 2015, and has served as an assistant coach (2015-18) and an associate head coach (2018-19).
A former University of Oklahoma standout herself, Ricketts comes from one of the most decorated collegiate softball families. Her younger sisters Stephanie and Keilani were both All-American pitchers. Stephanie played for the University of Hawaii and graduated in 2012 and Keilani played for the University of Oklahoma and was named the 2012 and 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Keilani also played professional for the USSSA Pride of the NPF.
Mississippi State is coming off of a 9-0 loss to Oklahoma. The Bulldogs have won two of their last four contest.Â

- Senior Destini Brown continues to dominate the diamond leading C-USA with 29 walks, 26 stolen bases, and 38 runs scored. This season, Brown has recorded 26 consecutive stolen bases.
- Second baseman Alyssa Davis has logged a standout season thus far recording 44 hits and 34 RBI's. Davis leads the Golden Eagles with a .346 batting average.
- Kiln, Miss. native Kaylan Ladner is cruising from within the circle with a record of 9-5 on the season. Ladner has an ERA of 2.09 on 77.0 innings pitched.
