Gamecocks, Panthers Too Much for Golden Eagles in Second Day of Diggin' Duals

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The second-straight day against No. 18 South Carolina and No. 19 Georgia State did not go in Southern Miss' favor, falling 5-0 and 4-1, respectively, to close out weekend action in Atlanta.

This weekend also marked Southern Miss' 13th ranked matches out of 27 overall contests.

Kylie Grandy and Abbey Wilson were able to come away with a win over Georgia State's Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte in the nightcap, who were each ranked No. 24 and 28 nationally. Freshmen Faith Miller and Haley Rogers also returned to the fray on No. 2 against Georgia State. It was Rogers' seventh appearance (all with Miller) and Miller's eighth (one was with Hallie Phelan).

Phelan and Kai Norman also rebounded from a 21-13 defeat in the second set of their extra court to win 15-7 in the deciding bout over South Carolina.

Southern Miss returns to action Tuesday for its final home matches. The Golden Eagles open and close the day against Southeastern Louisiana (12 p.m.) and Nicholls (6 p.m.).
