Corvell Todd earns first team All-America honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Southern Miss high jumper Corvell Todd earned All-America honors with a personal-best 7' 3" jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday.

"Corvell saved his best jumps for the championship," head coach Jon Stuart said of Todd's performance. "He got better when the competition started heating up and there's not a better feeling than responding at the NCAA's."

Todd posted the second-best all-time finish in the event in program history with a fifth-place finish. He joins Cedric Norman, who finished fourth in the event in 2004, as first team All-Americans for the Golden Eagles in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

"It was a great effort and a great result for Corvell," jumps coach Jamaal Burns added. "We're extremely happy with how things went and I'm very proud of what Corvell accomplished today."

Starting the day by clearing both the 6' 9.75" and 6' 11.75" marks on his first attempt, the Byhalia, Miss. native was down to his last attempt at the 7' 1.75" mark, before clearing the bar and sealing a spot as a first-team All-American.

He becomes the 12th overall first team All-America honoree under Stuart, who is in his seventh season at the helm of the Golden Eagles.

The Black and Gold now shift their attention to the outdoor season, which begins at the Bulldogs Relays in Starkville, Miss. on March 26.
