Women's Tennis Earns Hard-Fought Win over Rival South Alabama
2/27/2021 8:27:00 AM | Women's Tennis
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- A doubles defeat was still no match for Southern Miss against rival South Alabama, storming ahead to notch a 4-3, comeback win on Friday afternoon.
The Jaguars had won the 2019 Sun Belt title and were 6-1 heading into the match. The Golden Eagles (3-1) extended their home-match win streak to 20, with the last loss coming to South Alabama on April 4, 2018.
This was just the second time the Golden Eagles lost the doubles point this season after also going 27-3 in overall competition during the shortened 2020 season.
Suhana Das picked an impeccable time to earn her first-career singles win, rallying from a 7-5 loss to win 6-4 and 6-2. Southern Miss picked up three of the last four singles courts to close out the day. Sarah Medik and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan improved to 3-1 on singles each as well.
With Saturday's originally-scheduled home match with Loyola New Orleans being postponed for COVID-19, Southern Miss will next turn its attention to hosting Alcorn State Monday at 2 p.m.
