Southern Miss Softball Takes on Jackson State in Tuesday’s Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Softball team enters into their third week of action competing in a double header versus the Tigers of Jackson State.
The Golden Eagles play at home for the third time this year against a fellow in-state rival. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 4:00 p.m. (CT) and will be following by a second contest beginning at 6:00 p.m. (CT). The two games will be the first weekday games of the Golden Eagles 2021 campaign.
The last time out
Last weekend, Southern Miss hit the road traveling to Thibodaux, Louisiana taking on Nicholls State in a doubleheader. The Golden Eagles split games with the Colonels dropping game one 2-6, but hit the ground running in game two winning 3-0.
The Golden Eagles played Southern University in three games between Saturday and Sunday. Southern Miss won each of the games handily, run-ruling the Jaguars in two of the three contests. The final game saw an outstanding performance from right-handed pitcher Kaylan Ladner who broke the Southern Miss Softball Complex single-game strikeout record. Ladner finished with 17 strikeouts and secured the win for the Golden Eagles.
Breaking down the all-time record with Jackson State
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles lead the series with an all-time record of 18-4 versus Jackson State. The two teams last met February 22, 2020 resulting in a strong victory for the Golden Eagles 14-3. In the previous 10 games played, the Golden Eagles have won seven games to Jackson State's three.
The Golden Eagles enter tomorrow's match on a four-game win streak after sweeping Southern University Sunday evening.
