
Southern Miss Set to Host Annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball will welcome Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Mississippi Valley State, and Southeast Missouri State to Reed Green Coliseum on Friday and Saturday for their annual Thanksgiving tournament.

Scouting UAPB
• Head Coach Dawn Thornton is in her third season at the helm of the Lady Lions, having posted a record of 10-48 to this point.
• UAPB enters the tournament at 0-3 with losses to McNeese, Arkansas and Little Rock.
• The Lady Lions currently have three student-athletes averaging in double figures for points, with Khadijah Brown leading the way with 17.0 PPG.
• Joyce Kennerson is the biggest threat from the outside, having knocked down five 3's through the first three games for Pine Bluff.
• The roster for UAPB is filled with upperclassman, with 13 of the 18 Lady Lions holding a junior or above class standing.
Scouting MVSU
• Head Coach Ashley Walker-Johnson is in her 7th year as the leader of the Devilettes, having posted a 14-98 record to date.
• Valley is off to a 0-3 start with losses to Ole Miss, UAB and Murray State all coming by double digits.
• Mikayla Etienne and Zakiya Mahoney are tied for the lead in scoring, both averaging 11.3 PPG, as the pair are the only Devilettes in double figures through the first three games.
Scouting Southern Miss
• Southern Miss dished out a season-high 22 assists on 26 made field goals, as the Lady Eagles defeated Samford, 71-66, last Saturday to improve to 3-0 at Reed Green Coliseum this season.
• Hometown hero Melyia Grayson is averaging close to a double-double after the first two games of her sophomore season. Grayson is second on the squad with 11.8 PPG and leads the Lady Eagles in rebounding with 8.8 RPG.
• Transfer Domonique Davis has made her presence with the Lady Eagles felt immediately as she became the first USM player to take home C-USA Player of the Week honors since 2019 this week. Davis currently ranks third in the C-USA in scoring at 17.5 PPG. The DeRidder, La. native dropped a conference-leading 29 points on Saturday to secure a win over Samford. She went four-of-five from beyond the arc, including a perfect 3-of-3 in the fourth quarter.
