Southern Miss Travels to Alabama for Road Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's basketball team travels to Coleman Coliseum for their first road test of the season as they face off with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday evening. Tipoff from Coleman Coliseum is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Roger Hoover and Leah Drury will be on the broadcast for SEC Network +, while Jason Baker will have the call for the Southern Miss Radio Network, broadcast on 92.7 the Score and presented by Learfield.

Scouting the Crimson Tide
• Head Coach Kristy Curry is in her 9th year as the leader of the Crimson Tide, having posted a 134-119 record to date.
• Alabama is off to a 1-1 start. The Crimson Tide opened the season with a win over Charleston Southern, before dropping a close one to Tulane in their most recent game.
• Brittany Davis is the leading scorer and rebounder for Bama, averaging 21.0 PPG and 9.0 RPG through the first two contests.
• The Crimson Tide are coming off a 17-11 season in 2020-21, that saw the Tide advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, before falling to Maryland in the Round of 32.
• Alabama was voted to finish 12th in the SEC by the league's coaches.
• Alabama's 14-person roster includes eight returners, including two senior starters in Megan Abrams and Hannah Barber, and welcomes six newcomers, including four transfers, all from Power 5 programs, and two freshmen.

• Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis earned win No. 500 on Nov. 9 against crosstown foe William Carey, becoming the 85th DI women's basketball coach to reach the 500 career win mark. She joins just 34 other active DI coaches with 500 wins.
• Hometown hero Melyia Grayson is averaging close to a double-double after the first two games of her sophomore season. Grayson is third on the squad with 12.5 PPG and leads the Lady Eagles in rebounding with 9.5 RPG.
• Southern Miss worked the paint in their season opener, with half of the team's 72 points coming inside the paint. That trend continued in Saturday's contest with ULM, as 44 of USM's 77 were found in the lane.
