Black And Gold Journey To LA Tech For Friday Night Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss looks to earn its first win in Ruston as the Black and Gold travel south to face-off against LA Tech, Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. Southern Miss currently leads the C-USA West Division with seven points, a 2-1-1 conference record, and a 6-3-1 overall record.
"The ladies have done a great job showing up to every practice with energy and focus. We understand that nothing is guaranteed and that we have to earn every thing that comes our way with hard work, perseverance and sticking together," said Head Coach Mohammed El-Zare. "LA Tech is a good team that we have a ton of respect for. We are ready to display our qualities and get the points that we need."
"We had an intense week of training, focusing on the positive aspects and improving the negative aspects we had. But one thing is certain, we are more than prepared to beat them for the first time away from home," noted senior Alice Campos.
Series History: LA Tech leads series 7-2-2. The series began on Sep. 3, 2006 as the Golden Eagles beat LA Tech 4-0 in Hattiesburg.
Last Time In Hattiesburg: Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech last met on April 4, 2021, in Hattiesburg as the Black and Gold picked up their first win over the Lady Techsters since 2006 as they won, 3-1.
To The Top: Diaz is currently tied for 19th in the nation for assists per game and tied for 28th in the country for assists. The Southern Miss soccer team currently sits at these national statistic rankings:

The Golden Eagles also lead the conference in goals (27), goals per game (2.70), assists per game (2.44), and total points (78).
A La Orden: The Latin duo of Ariel Diaz and Ilana Izquierdo lead the Black and Gold offensively for a combined eight goals and nine assists, totaling 26 points so far this season. The Colombian is having a fantastic freshman year, leading the team in goals with five, while she also has tallied five assists for a total 14 points. The reigning C-USA Offensive Player of the Year leads the USM squad in assists with six, and has three goals to her name for 12 points.
