CONCORD, N.C. – Once again led by junior Lina May, the Southern Miss cross country team took home fourth at the C-USA XC Championships hosted by Charlotte on Saturday morning at Frank Liske Park.
A Second-Team All-Conference selection in 2019, May improved her personal best in the 6k by 14 seconds to earn First-Team All-Conference honors, placing fourth in a time of 21:08.5.
"Lina has been that consistent piece at the top for our team all season," said head coach Nick Gibson. "She's worked extremely hard to put herself in the position that she's in, and I'm happy for her to get the recognition that she deserves with the All-Conference award."
The Vancleave native moved to No. 6 all-time in the 6k for the Golden Eagles, while Carlin Beal ran a personal-best 22:45.8 to round out the scoring portion of the Southern Miss contingency with a 37th place finish.
The Golden Eagles finished with an average time of 22:11.74 and 125 points. Completing the top five for Southern Miss were Cassidy Teuscher (23rd, 22:08.1), Kate Mattox (29th, 22:25.6) and Katelyn Cartwright (33rd, 22:30.7).
"As a team, we have a lot that we can improve on before the NCAA Regional meet. We'll go back to work and look to be at our best on Nov. 12," Gibson concluded.
