Golden Eagles Return After Two-Week Break to Play at Troy

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team is back at it Sunday with an 11 a.m. road match at Troy.
The Trojans (5-4 in 2020) are making their season debut after Saturday's tilt with Florida State was postponed.
Southern Miss fell to a stout Mississippi State team in the Jan. 15 season opener. Newcomers Stephanie Booth (grad student) and Caroline Hudson (freshman) made their debuts on Nos. 5 and 6 while also teaming up on No. 3 doubles.
The Golden Eagles were 2-1 away from home last year, including a victory over C-USA foe UTSA in Natchitoches, La.
Head coach Steve Schram will be going for his 100th-career win and 24th as a Golden Eagle. Under his direction, Southern Miss has only lost consecutive matches once. Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi enters her eighth year at the helm, posting a 69-67 record.
Southern Miss won last year's meeting (March 1), 6-1. Five of the team's wins came by 2021 returners. The Golden Eagles also won the previous year, which marked the programs' first battle since 2009.
