Track and Field Enjoys Stellar Day at Samford Invite

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss captured three first place finishes, including two meet records, to enjoy a strong showing in the Samford Invite Friday afternoon at the Birmingham (Ala.) CrossPlex.
"What a difference a week makes," said Southern Miss track and field coach Jon Stuart on his team's improvement from the first to second meet. "We showed a great deal of improvement compared to week one. There is lots of work to do over the next two weeks, and the CUSA Championship is a month away."
The Golden Eagles captured all three first-place finishes on the men's side at Trey Johnson capture the 400 meters race with a 48.04 time. Corvell Todd captured the other title in the high jump with a distance of 2.15 meters. Both marks were meet records.
The other first-place showing was done by the 4x400 team that consisted of Landon Chalden (49.4), Johnson (47.7), Kacey Spinks (54.6) and DJ Butler (48.6) for a total of 3:20.35.
Southern Miss also totaled five second-place showings and eight third-place finishes.

200m – Cardet Bienvenue, fifth, 22.16
