HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss track and field team heads back to the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday to take part in the Samford Invite.
"We're ready for round two of the season," head coach Jon Stuart said. "The first meet went well for us but now the trick is to just continue to get better. This is just another opportunity for us to get better marks and see what direction our training is headed. We're really excited to get back on the track."
Southern Miss will be joined by Conference USA foes Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. Also competing in the meet is Arkansas-Little Rock, Furman, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, Samford, UT-Chattanooga and UT-Tyler.
The Golden Eagles are coming off of strong performance at the Blazer Invite, which saw Savannah McMillon and Corvell Todd both win events for Southern Miss.
"We're expecting a lot from Corvell," Stuart added. "I think he's got a lot more in him so we're excited to see what he can do."
"We went one-two in the mile last week so we'll see if they can build off that performance against some tougher distance competition."
Friday's meet will begin at 10 a.m with the women's weight throw, while the women's 5K will kick off the running events at 11 a.m.
