Men's Golf Opens Season Tuesday in Birmingham

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team will travel to UAB to compete against ten rival teams in the 2020 Graeme McDowell Invitational Tuesday and Wednesday.
The two-day event will take place on the par 72, 7,299 yards Greystone Founders Course. It will consist of 36 holes of play on Tuesday followed by a final 18 holes on Wednesday. This year's tournament field will include host UAB, Augusta, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, and ULM. Each team will have six players compete with the lowest four scores each round counting towards that round's team score. Live scoring can be found here.
The Golden Eagles line-up for the fall opener consist of senior Matt Lorenz, juniors Hunter Atkins and Brian Richards, sophomore Joey Kirkland, and freshmen Robbie Latter and Bennett Ruby.
Last year, Lorenz and Richards posted the season's third-best rounds, playing a 5-under 67 in the first round of the LaTour Intercollegiate in February. Latter was also the team's top performer a year ago (72.29 stroke average).
Atkins appeared in three events last year, and his best round was a 4-under 67 at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate that opened the season.
Kirkland played in 9 rounds last season playing with a season average of 73.33. Ruby will make his collegiate debut.
