TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Southern Miss men's golf finishes round two in second behind the Seminole Intercollegiate host, Florida State, and in front of Stetson on Monday evening following the weather delay in the morning.
Following the hurried three-quarters of golf being played in round two on day one, due to hazardous weather on Monday, and play being halted due to darkness, the Golden Eagles navigate a four-team jump to second, highlighted by Matthew Javier with a 5-under 139 through 36 holes and a second-place spot.
Matthew Javier carded a 2-under 70 playing only five holes on the day, picking up three pars, a birdie and a bogey to conclude his evening. Javier is second, trailing Troy's Lee Poppell, on par-4 holes with a 3-under and 3.85 average, while tied with teammate Supakorn Amornchaichan, with eight birdies, placing tied for sixth in the category.
Amornchaichan stayed consistent with an even 72, only having to play two holes, tied with teammates Tommy Latter and Javier, for par-3 holes, shooting an even 3.00 average. Amornchaichan is tied fourth with a 1-under 143 through 36 holes.
Jake Moffitt is tied for 39th as he picks up a 1-over 73, improving 34 positions from the previous round. Latter jumps 18 ranks as he etches a 3-over 75, having to play the most rounds on the day for the Golden Eagles with 12.
Benjamin Fernandez and Walker Wise, who is playing as an individual, both pick up a pair of double boogeys with Fernandez ending the day 6-over 78 and Wise at 8-over 80.
