Golden Eagles Sit in Second Amidst Impending Weather at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Southern Miss men's golf finished day one at the Seminole Intercollegiate in second, highlighted by a tied-for-first performance from sophomore Matthew Javier on the Seminole Legacy golf course Sunday evening.
The Golden Eagles rise four places following the conclusion of round one after posting a six-over 294 and halting play with a one-under 196, with the conclusion of round two being played after the weather delay clears up, slated for 3:00 p.m. The black and gold trail the host, Florida State, and lead conference opponent Troy to round out the podium.
The Ontario native, Javier, opened the morning with a three-under 33 front nine with three birdies in a five-hole span while staying consistent, collecting a string of two bogeys, two pars and two birdies in the back nine to card a three-under 69. With five holes left to play in round two, Javier etched an eagle on hole 12, a par 4 spanning 485 yards, concluding the day tied for first after his three-under 50.
Supakorn Amornchaichan went red in round one with a five-birdie performance exceling in the front nine with a three-under 33. The junior, who is tied for fifth alongside teammate Javier with seven birdies in the contest, followed his one-under 71 performance with an even 64 through 16 holes in round two.
Benjamin Fernandez, Jake Moffitt and Tommy Latter landed in a 10-way tie for 73rd at the Seminole Intercollegiate after round one with a five-over 77, combining for 31 pars. Moffitt joined teammate Amornchaichan, tied for sixth on par 3s with an average of 2.86 and holding steady in the top 20 for birdies with five. Junior Latter is ranked tied for 22nd on par 3s, sitting with an even 3.00 average only making it through six holes in round two before the day was over.
Junior Fernandez is in the top 15 with 22 pars on the day, with three holes left in round two, sitting at six-over 67 and tied for 88th. Walker Wise concluded round one with a nine-over 81 and rests with a three-over 43 with eight of the back nine remaining in round two.
Southern Miss leads the 21-team field tied with Ball State on par 3s with an even 3.00 average and a second-place spot behind Florida State on par 4s with a 4.14 average.
