Last Time in the Sand
The Golden Eagles haven't been in the sand since they knocked off ULM for the program's first Coastal Collegiate Sports Association win on Feb. 24. Southern Miss jumped to an early lead after winning matches on court three, four, and five. Kylie Grandy and Abbey Wilson made it 4-0 after sweeping their match at the top spot. Piper Matsumoto and Madison Lawer fell in a three-set battle on court two to give the Warhawks their lone victory. The win marked the first of the season for the second-year program.
Haley Hop and Hallie Phelan have jumped out to a 3-0 start in their rookie campaigns for the Golden Eagles. Sophomores Kellie Garraway and Kinsley Hanback have matched that mark, going 3-0 on court five.
The Field
The field that awaits the Golden Eagles has combined for 13 wins, while SELA has yet to play this season. Spring Hill (5-5) is coming off a sweep of William Carey in a doubleheader on Tuesday. Prior to Tuesday's contest, the Sandy Badgers went winless at the Tiger Beach Challenge hosted by LSU. SELA opens its inaugural season at the UNO Beach Invitational when it plays TAMUK prior to the 5 p.m. contest against Southern Miss.
The Javelinas (6-1) head to New Orleans with wins in six of their first seven matches after going 2-1 in Fort Worth, Texas last weekend. TAMUK notched wins over Abilene Christian and Nebraska before falling to No. 16 TCU. In 2019, TAMUK finished with a 19-13 record and had an impressive showing at the AVCA National Tournament. ULM (2-7, 0-4 CCSA) will face the Golden Eagles 13 days after falling 4-1 in Hattiesburg. The Warhawks recorded a pair of wins at the UAB Beach Volleyball Invitational last weekend despite falling to UAB and Coastal Carolina.
The History
