Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season in Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf program opens the spring portion of its 2020 season Monday and Tuesday at the Mobile (Ala.) Sports Authority Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama and played at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Club.
The event, which will be played on the par 72, 7,212-yard course, gets underway at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start as the 14-team field plays 36 holes on Monday and finishes the event with 18 more the following day, also starting at 8 a.m.
This field includes possibly the toughest set of teams that the Golden Eagles will face during the spring in any event as seven Top 100 squads as ranked by GolfStat will be in action. Those Top 100 teams include No. 15 Louisville, No. 41 UAB, No. 50 Illinois, No. 60 Florida State, No. 67 Illinois State, No. 98 Denver and No. 100 South Alabama.
Texas State enters the tournament with a No. 106 ranking, followed by Chattanooga at No. 112 and Southern Miss at No. 122.
The remainder of the teams are Louisiana-Lafayette, WKU, Richmond and Wofford.
During the fall portion of the campaign, the Golden Eagles posted a 46-25-2 mark against teams they played against in the five fall tournaments. Their victory total is the second most in Conference USA, trailing only UAB.
The Golden Eagles will utilize the lineup of seniors Walker Kesterson and Matt Lorenz, junior Brice Wilkinson, sophomore Joey Kirkland and freshman Robbie Latter.
Wilkinson and Latter leads the team in scoring average in the fall with a 72.67 score per round over 15 circuits.
