Golden Eagles Set to Compete at C-USA Indoor Championships

The Southern Miss Track & Field Squad heads to Birmingham for the Conference Championships on Feb. 22 and 23.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss Track and Field are set to compete in the 2020 Indoor C-USA Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama. The meet will take place on both Saturday, Feb. 22 and Sunday, Feb. 23.

The meet will be livestreamed on CUSA.tv all day on Saturday and on Sunday until 12:45 p.m. CT. It will be available on ESPN+ starting at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday. The Rundown
The meet will begin at 9 a.m., starting with the combined events; the heptathlon will kick things off and the pentathlon will follow at 9:15 a.m. The first set of field events will start at 2 p.m. CT, starting with men's high jump. Running prelims begin at 4 p.m. CT with the 1 mile race. The finals of the 5000m and DMR kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT and 8:20 p.m. CT, respectively.
On day two, things will start off with the remaining heptathlon events beginning at 9 a.m. The second round of field events starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday with men's shot put and triple jump and the women's high jump. The remainder of the running finals begin at 1 p.m. The awards presentation is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. following the conclusion of all running finals.
Be A Part of the Action
Admission costs $20 for an adult two-day pass and $10 for youth (12-17). A single day ticket cost $15 for adults and $6 for youth (12-17). Admission is free for children ages 11 and under and for students who attend a C-USA member institution and have a valid ID card.
Last Time Out
Last season at the C-USA Indoor Championships, the Golden Eagles finished with the men in fourth place with 85 points and the women in fifth with 59.5 points. Those top-five performances were accompanied by school and meet records, as well as top-three individual finishes on both sides. Gold was won by John Warren (triple jump), Eric Richards (high jump), McKinely West (60m, 200m), Caleb Parker (60mH), and Danisha Jones (shot put). Jones had a school record in the shot put, Richards claimed a school record mark that he has now beaten this season in the high jump, and West had a meet records in both the 200m dash and the 60m, which he tied the record. He set a preliminaries meet record as well in the 60m. Parker had a meet record in the 60m hurdles.
On the Lookout
Sandra Szpott is ranked second-place on the performance list across C-USA for her time in the 800m at 2:10.62, which she hit at the Music City Challenge. She is also listed at second in the mile at 4:45.37, which she finished at the Houston G5-Super 22 Invitational, which also broke the school record. Szpott is in the top-five for the 3000m as well, with a mark of 9:44.16 from the Samford Indoor Clash. Patton Little has also placed top-five in the 3000m, setting a new school record at the Music City Challenge with a time of 8:13.08. Keirston Paige is making waves in the men's 60m hurdles and is in the third spot at 7.93. He is matched by Marquasha Myers on the women's side who is also in third in Conference at 8.65. The women of the DMR are ranked first in C-USA. Eric Richards is on top of the high jump list after his 7'4.5" school-record mark.

The Golden Eagles traveling consist of 24 women and 21 men. Former Golden Eagles and C-USA Indoor Champions Danisha Jones and John Warren will be on hand, Jones serving as the GA for the program and Warren as a volunteer.
