HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Another home match is on tap for Southern Miss Men's Tennis, this time on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Nicholls. Admission is free.
Southern Miss is 27-7 in singles with an 8-7 doubles mark (seven different pairings). With the exception of Hsiang Yi Wang, every player has competed on multiple singles courts. Matthieu Peres has continued to take the reins on the squad with team-best 6-0 and 4-2 records for singles and doubles, respectively. The Golden Eagles' last time out saw a 4-0 victory over C-USA foe UAB in which freshman Antoine Androine clinched the doubles and singles points.
Head coach Zubin Engineer has also inched closer to his 100th-career win at Southern Miss, currently sitting at 96-49.
The Colonels opened the season with a 6-1 win over Alcorn before falling to South Alabama and Jacksonville State by the same score. They will also play at Millsaps Friday afternoon before shuttling down to Hattiesburg. Like the Golden Eagles, Nicholls is a young and energetic team, featuring four freshmen.
Southern Miss defeated Nicholls in last year's meeting, Feb. 24, 4-1. None of the Colonels from that meeting are on this year's team.
