HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Dustin Dickerson and Danny Lynch each drove in two runs to lead the Southern Miss Black squad over the Gold, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park in the team's Fall World Series.
With the win, the best-of-five series is now tied at 1-1 with game three set for Tuesday, Nov. 17, after the Gold won the opener on Friday, 1-0.
The Black team jumped out to an early lead with a solo run in the opening frame via a Will McGillis sacrifice fly.
After the Gold tied the game with a second-inning leadoff homer by Cade Crosby, the Black team collected a hit by pitch to Lynch and a double by Billy Garrity to open the bottom of the frame. Dickerson, who had a game-high three hits, doubled home the pair of runs to give the Black team a 3-1 advantage.
A sacrifice fly by Andrew Stanley in the fourth cut the gap, but a two-run single up the middle by Lynch put the game out of reach in the seven-inning game.
Walker Powell gave up two runs and scattered five hits with six strikeouts and a walk to register the victory, while Tyler Lantz fanned two and gave up two hits over the final two innings to get the save.
The Gold's Tanner Hall allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts to over 4 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.
Both teams finished the contest with seven hits each.
