Men's Golf Posts Fifth-Place Showing at Intercollegiate at The Grove

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Junior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) birdied four of his final eight holes to shoot a final-round 69 in leading Southern Miss to a fifth-place team showing Tuesday at the Intercollegiate at The Grove being played in College Grove, Tenn.
The Golden Eagles, which took the lowest four scores of the six team members playing during the round, posted a 290 over the final 18 holes to finish with a two-over 578 at the par 72, 7,368-yard The Grove Club course.
Wilkinson, who finished with a 36-hole, 144 total after firing a 75 on Monday, posted his ninth career round in the 60s over his year-plus stint in the program to capture a 14th-place tie in the event.
Junior Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) ended with a round of 76, after shooting an opening day 71 to post a 146 and a 19th-place tie, while the senior Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) added a 76 with his first-day 72 for a 148 total and a 29th-place tie.
Both Bennett Ruby, a freshman from Waterloo, Ontario, and a Robbie Latter, a freshman from Mississauga, Ontario, both finished with 149 total to tie for 38th place. Ruby collected a 76 over the final round, while Latter shot a 77. Junior Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.) rounded out the Golden Eagle scorers with a two-under par 70 over the final 18 holes to finish with a 151 total and a 50th-place tie.
Host Middle Tennessee and ULM tied for team title with a 573, beating Appalachian State (575) and Coast Carolina (577) by two and four strokes, respectively. The Golden Eagles finished fifth, followed by Lamar (584), Louisiana Tech (585), Francis Marion (586), Mercer (588), Troy (595), Western Carolina (596), Chattanooga (597) and WKU (608).
Southern Miss returns to action next Monday to complete the fall portion of its season when they travel to Arkansas to play in the First Tee/Little Rock Invitational.
