Southern Miss will hit the court in Halton Arena at 4 p.m. ET in Charlotte, N.C.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lady Eagles of Southern Miss women's basketball look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon in Halton Arena as they take on Charlotte for a 4 p.m. ET matchup with the 49ers.
Southern Miss (11-8, 3-5) meet the 49ers (13-6, 4-4) for the first time this season for their seventh road game overall. It will tip off the month of February for both programs.
The Lady Eagles are on a cold streak and look to flip the script against Charlotte on Saturday. They fell for the fourth-straight game on Jan. 31 to ODU in Norfolk, Va., 67-50 in Chartway Arena. The Lady Eagles are averaging 65 points per game and 37.2 rebounds per game, as well as 14.1 assists per game. Southern Miss had a hot start against the Monarchs, and made a comeback in the fourth quarter, but couldn't pull it out in the end. The defense was able to hold the Monarchs offense to just 25% from the field and 10 points in the third. While the defense has been putting in work, the bench has been struggling for the Lady Eagles, recording just seven points at ODU and no points against Middle Tennessee at home. The Lady Eagles look to fire it up against Charlotte.
Charlotte is coming off a win against LA Tech at home, defeating the Lady Techsters 55-37. It was the lowest point total the 49ers had held their opponent to in the season thus far. The 49ers also held them to the lowest number of field goals made, attempted, 3-pointers made, 3-point percentage, rebounds and assists. They had a new starting lineup against the Lady Techsters as well. Jade Phillips, a redshirt senior, leads the team in points, rebounds and steals. The 49ers are led by Cara Consuegra, who is in her ninth season with the squad.
This won't be the last time Southern Miss sees Charlotte this season, as they were matched for the last four games of the C-USA schedule in December. They will meet again later in February on the 22nd for a 4pm Saturday afternoon matchup in Reed Green.
