HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles of Southern Miss women's basketball head out to Norfolk, Va. to face the Lady Monarchs of ODU on their home court for just the second time in program history on Thursday, Jan. 30 with tip time set at 5:30 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss (11-7, 3-4) hits the road to start a two-game road swing where they will see ODU (16-3, 6-1) as just the sixth away game this season.
The Lady Eagles are on a three-game losing streak despite late comebacks. Southern Miss has been plagued by turnovers, a non-scoring bench and by not winning the third quarter. Kelsey Jones had a double-double against MTSU with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She continues to lead in boards, having wiped them 106 times so far this season. Daishai Almond has become the master of dishing out assists with 72 this season. Against the Blue Raiders, four of the Lady Eagle starters scored in double-digits. It was the second time they had accomplished that this season. The Lady Eagles are first in the league in steals and steals per game.
ODU is coming off a successful Florida trip, defeating both FIU and Florida Atlantic. They are led by sophomore Ajah Wayne in scoring, who has amassed 221 points this season. Amari Young, also a sophomore, leads the Lady Monarchs in rebounds with 148 while senior Taylor Edwards leads in assists with 53. They are led by second-year head coach Nikki McCray-Penson in Norfolk. ODU is 9-0 at home this season.
