HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Riding high after knocking off Florida A&M Friday afternoon in its home opener, the Southern Miss Women's Tennis team will continue its homestand on Sunday when New Orleans comes to town at 11 a.m.
Backed by a clean sweep in doubles play in their last match, the Golden Eagles quickly grabbed an early lead against Florida A&M on Friday. They followed that by adding four more points with wins from Katia de la Garza, Tanit Lopez, Sarah Medik and Monique Burton in singles play. It was the second consecutive match in which Southern Miss swept doubles play.
The Privateers bring a perfect record to Hattiesburg after wins over Prairie View A&M and Jackson State. After Southern Miss swept Prairie View A&M Tuesday morning, New Orleans tacked on its first win of the season by sweeping the Panthers later in the day.
Sunday's meeting renews a rivalry that has been on hold since 2014. In the last meeting, Southern Miss dominated in a 6-1 win on the road. It's the first meeting in Hattiesburg since 2013, in which New Orleans won.
Admission to Sunday's contest is free.
