Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Mississippi Valley State, 8-0 on Sunday

Junior midfielder Jenny Caracheo led the Golden Eagles with a hat trick and six points.
Southern Miss got off to a fast start when junior midfielder Jenny Caracheo netted her first goal of the season, on an assist by redshirt junior forward Alice Campos in the third minute of the match.
Campos followed up her assist on Caracheo's goal by notching a goal of her own during the 15th minute of the match, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
In the 19th minute of the match, Caracheo cashed in for the second time when she scored off of a corner kick from junior midfielder JoAnnie Ramos.
Just 31 seconds after Caracheo scored her second goal of the match, redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz joined in on the scoring action when she found the back of the net on as assist by Keely Hoppmeyer.
Caracheo made history after logging her third goal of the match in the 22nd minute of play. The hat trick marked the first of the Royse City, Texas native's Southern Miss career and the first of the season for the Golden Eagles. Pohevitz earned the assist on the goal. Caracheo's three goals scored tie her for the third most goals scored in a match by any Southern Miss women's soccer player.
In addition to her three goals scored, Caracheo logged six points in the match, tying her for the sixth most points scored in a match by any player in the history of the Southern Miss women's soccer program.
With time winding down, redshirt sophomore Mackenzie Hamilton extended Southern Miss' lead to 6-0 after scoring on an assist by Chantae Blackwood. The goal marked the first of the season for Hamilton. Blackwood's assist marked the first assist of the freshman's Southern Miss career.
Leading 6-0 entering the second half, the Golden Eagles offense continued to stay hot as they produced two more goals.
Campos recorded Southern Miss' first goal of the second half and her second of the match, in the 67th minute of play.
Junior forward Ariel Diaz knocked in the final goal of the match in the 84th minute of play, sealing the deal on an 8-0 victory for Southern Miss. The goal marked the first of Diaz's Southern Miss career. Diaz is currently in the middle of her first season with Southern Miss after transferring from North Texas.
As a team, Southern Miss finished the match with a total of 36 shots, the sixth most shots ever recorded by any Southern Miss women's soccer team in a match. The Golden Eagles registered 23 shots in the first half and 13 shots in the second half. 21 of the Golden Eagles' 36 shots were on goal.
Southern Miss won the corner kicks advantage, 3-0.
The shutout marked the second of the week and of the season for the Southern Miss defense.
Senior goalkeeper Karsen Gildea saw her first action of the season when she took over in the net to begin the second half. The Ocean Springs, Miss. native logged 45 minutes of playing time in the match.
Southern Miss will return to action on Friday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. (CT) when they travel to Auburn, Ala. to take on SEC foe Auburn. The match will be played at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
