Volleyball to End Road Stretch at WKU on Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After beating Western Kentucky at the Conference USA Championships in 2018 for the first time since 1988, the Southern Miss (0-13, 0-1 C-USA) women's volleyball team and Lady Toppers (14-1, 0-0 C-USA) are set to square off on Sunday. First serve in Bowling Green is slated for 12 p.m. (CT).

The Golden Eagles fell to Marshall in straight sets to open C-USA play on Friday night. The Thundering Herd defended their home court en route to Ari Agunus' first win in the Cam Henderson Center.
Freshman Katie Erdmann paced the Golden Eagles with a career-high nine kills and Kinsley Hanback's career-high seven kills were second on the team. Madison Lawler recorded double-digit digs for the eighth time this season with 16 against the Herd.
Junior Piper Matsumoto dished out 25 assists and finished one dig shy of another double-double. Kess Krutsinger, who leads the Golden Eagles in blocks, swatted three Marshall attack attempts.

The Lady Toppers enter Sunday's match with an NCAA-leading 14 wins. Their lone loss came in a four-set battle against Louisville. The 12 p.m. contest will be the C-USA opener for WKU, who has not played since a midweek sweep of Austin Peay on Sept. 24.
Lauren Matthews leads the offensive charge for WKU with 194 kills, averaging 3.73 kills per set. Junior Nadia Dieudonne has dished out a team-high 555 assists, including 54 against former Golden Eagle coach Amanda Berkley's Loyola Chicago squad.
Defensively, Matthews leads the Lady Toppers at the net with 63 total blocks and Paige Briggs leads the way with 181 digs. WKU coach Travis Hudson has been at the helm of the program for 25 seasons, accumulating over 600 wins in Bowling Green.

WKU leads the all-time series, 6-2. In 2018, WKU bested Southern Miss in five sets at Reed Green Coliseum, but the Golden Eagles handed the Lady Toppers a 3-2 loss at the C-USA Championships later in the season.
