
Women's Soccer Drops Tough Road Contest to North Texas, 1-0

Southern Miss redshirt sophomore forward and Prosper, Texas native Mackenzie Hamilton earned the first start of her Southern Miss career.
DENTON, Texas – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (5-5-0, 0-2-0 C-USA) dropped a tough road contest to C-USA foe North Texas (7-3-0, 2-0-0 C-USA) by a final score of 1-0 on Thursday night.

Scoring came at a premium in Thursday night's contest, as it was a physical battle between both teams.

North Texas capitalized on a scoring opportunity in the 40th minute of play when Olivia Klein headed in a ball off of a free kick, giving the Mean Green a 1-0 lead. Brittnye Lawson and Brooke Lamp were each credited with an assist on the goal. Klein's goal would eventually prove to be the game-winning goal.

Southern Miss posted a total of nine saves in the contest to help keep things close. Junior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich accounted for seven of Southern Miss' saves, tying her season-high for saves in a match.

Southern Miss will return to action on Friday, October 4 when they host FIU. Friday's match will be played at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex and kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. (CT). The match will feature the Athletes Supporting Athletes promotion as well as the Faculty and Staff Appreciation promotion. Â
