Women’s Soccer Set to Host FIU in First Home C-USA Match of the Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (5-5, 0-2 C-USA) will host FIU (2-8, 0-3 C-USA) on Friday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. Friday's match will mark the first home C-USA match of the season for Southern Miss.
The last time out
The last time that Southern Miss took the pitch, they fell to North Texas, 1-0 on Thursday, September 26 in Denton.
The match was a hard-fought battle between both teams throughout the entire 90 minutes of play. A goal by North Texas' Olivia Klein that came via a set piece in the 40th minute of play proved to be the difference in the match. Brittnye Lawson and Brooke Lampe were each credited with an assist on Klein's goal.
Noteworthy moments
The series is currently tied 1-1-0. Southern Miss is 1-1-0 when facing FIU on the road in Miami. The two teams have never played each other in Hattiesburg or at a neutral site.

Before transitioning into coaching, Nonen starred for the Canadian Women's National Team, competing in the World Cup in 1999 and 2003. In 2003, Nonen helped her homeland to its best finish in World Cup history, with a semifinal appearance and fourth place finish. Nonen earned World Cup All-Tournament Team honors in 1999 and 2003.
The last time that FIU played a match, they fell to Marshall, 6-0 at home on Sunday, September 29.
Campus connection
Southern Miss redshirt senior defender/midfielder Jacky Manteas began her collegiate career at FIU. The Bielefeld, Germany native transferred to Southern Miss prior to the 2019 season.
During her time at FIU, Manteas appeared in a total of 43 games. She missed the entire 2017 season due to injury.
