Southern Miss Women’s Soccer Set to Take on In-State Rival Mississippi State on Saturday

The Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs will kick off Saturday’s exhibition match at 4:00 p.m. (CT) at the MSU Soccer Field in Starkville, Miss.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team is slated to take on their in-state rival Mississippi State in an exhibition match on Saturday, August 17 at 4:00 p.m. (CT) at the MSU Soccer Field in Starkville, Miss.
The last time out
The last time that Southern Miss took the pitch, they fell to #24 LSU by a final score of 2-1 in an exhibition match played in Baton Rouge on Friday, August 9.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period of play when redshirt junior Hailey Pohevitz found the back of the net after finishing off a shot from redshirt senior defender Kaitlin Fayard that ricocheted off of the crossbar.
Southern Miss nearly captured a 2-0 lead over the defending SEC champions after junior forward/defender Macie Pennington netted a goal, but Pennington's goal was waived off due to an offside infraction.
Southern Miss held its 1-0 lead until LSU's Haley Garrett tied the match 1-1 with just under three minutes to play in the second period.
The match remained tied until the final minutes of play when Meghan Johnson converted what eventually proved to be the game-winning goal for LSU.
