The Golden Eagles (30-13 overall, 17-4 C-USA) welcome back the 2009 College World Series team and also will give away a Corky Palmer bobble head to the first 1,000 fans in the gates on Saturday.
Two games separate the first-place Golden Eagles and Florida Atlantic (30-14, 15-6) in the league standings as Scott Berry's club holds a three-game winning streak over the Owls, which includes a 12-3 victory in last year's C-USA Tournament championship game.
Southern Miss continues to be the hottest team in the league after winning its ninth-straight contest Wednesday night in a 5-3 decision over nationally ranked Ole Miss. Matt Wallner homered twice in the game and robbed the Rebels off one as the Golden Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak to its in-state rival.
Wallner ended his night with three hits, which pushed him over the .300 mark in batting at .307. He now has hit seven homers in the last nine games to give him 14 for the year and 49 for his career. He is one homer shy of tying Jeff Cook (2000-03) for second on the school's career chart.
Bryant Bowen, who also homered against the Rebels, continues to lead the team with a .362 batting average. Senior Hunter Slater ranks second on the club in hitting at .324, while freshman Hunter LeBlanc is batting at a .319 clip. Fellow freshman, Danny Lynch, holds a .315 batting mark, while sophomore Gabe Montenegro is at .309.
