HATTIESBURG, Miss. - When the Golden Eagles (12-3, 0-1 CUSA) host Southern (5-11, 5-3 SWAC) on Thursday afternoon, Rikeetha Pereira and Tjasa Jerse will don the black and gold for one final time at home. On Senior Day, Southern Miss will honor Jerse and Pereira for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
Jerse, who has dominated in singles play over her four-year career, ranks fourth all-time in career wins with 67. In 2019, the Slovenia native has a 9-3 record with a winning streak that spanned 13 days and five matches. In her senior campaign, Pereira has upped her win total to 44 matches with at least four matches still to be played in her final season.
Southern Miss is coming off a tough loss at Tulane on Saturday after beating Prairie View A&M on Friday. With wins by Jerse and Pereira on Friday, the Golden Eagles shutout the Panthers, 5-0. Southern heads to Hattiesburg on a four-game skid after dropping a 4-1 decision to Bethune Cookman on Saturday. Just a season ago, Southern Miss knocked off Southern by a 4-1 score. Pereira and Jerse were the lone holdovers from last season to record a win against Southern in that match.
The Golden Eagles and Jaguars are slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility. Follow @SouthernMissWTN on Twitter for updates.
