HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss indoor track and field athlete Lina May, a freshman out of Vancleave, Miss., was named a Winter Spirit of Service honoree by Conference USA.
Â
May has been volunteering with a middle school bible study through her church, where she leads a girls' bible study through Venture Church with seventh and eighth grade girls. She also volunteered at an after-school program called Aldersgate, where she helped kids do their homework and played with them after their school day was over, helping those without means or in need of academic assistance.
Â
May has been a standout performer in her young career. She competed in all six cross country meets as a freshman, including the C-USA Championships and the NCAA South Regionals. She placed top-25 in three of them. For the indoor track season, May competed in the 3000 and 5000, posting an eighth-place finish in the 5000m and 13th place in the 3000 at the Conference Championships.
