HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team plays the first of four home games this week when they entertain South Alabama in a 6 p.m., contest Tuesday, April 2, at Pete Taylor Park.
The Golden Eagles captured the final game of the UTSA series Sunday by defeating the Roadrunners 14-6.
It was the bottom of the order that got the Golden Eagles going in the series finale as pair of freshman led the way for Southern Miss. Will McGillis collected three hits and four RBI, while Hunter LeBlanc added two hits and three RBI as the squad snapped a two-game losing skid.
Southern Miss, which had an eight-game winning streak snapped last Friday night, looks to continue a new string against the Jaguars (12-14), who have lost five in a row after getting swept at Sun Belt Conference foe UT-Arlington last weekend.
The Golden Eagles are expected to throw redshirt-freshman Ryan Och (1-3, 2.77 ERA), while the Jaguars will counter with senior left-hander Jared Proctor (0-3, 3.95 ERA).
Following the South Alabama contest, the Golden Eagles return to Conference USA play this weekend when they entertain Marshall. That series will take place with single contests at 6 p.m., Friday, followed by 2 p.m., Saturday, and then at 11 a.m., Sunday.
The game can be heard on the Southern Miss Sports Network from Learfield IMG College, including the flagship stations of 96.5 FM and 97.7 FM, as well as 104.5 HD2 in the Hattiesburg area. The can also be accessed through Tune In and for free on the Southern Miss Gameday App.
