
Lady Eagles Fall to Charlotte in Regular-Season Finale

Southern Miss put up a fight against the 49ers.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lady Eagles fell to Charlotte in the regular-season finale in North Carolina, 59-46.
Southern Miss (17-12, 9-7) fell late to the 49ers (17-11, 9-7) in Halton Arena after making a comeback against Charlotte in the second half.
The Lady Eagles went from being down 17 points to coming within one twice in the second half. In the second quarter, the 49ers held the Lady Eagles to just six points, going into halftime with a 37-20 lead over USM. By that point, Southern Miss had 16 points in the paint in comparison to Charlotte's 14, and 10 bench points in comparison to Charlotte's four. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles held Charlotte to six points, with no points in the paint, no second-chance points and only two points from their bench. In the fourth quarter alone, the Lady Eagles put up 12 points in the paint and had eight points come from the bench. Southern Miss ultimately out-rebounded Charlotte 44-30. The Lady Eagles swiped nine steals.
Respect Leaphart finished with a double-double, the second of this season and third of her career. She had 12 rebounds and 10 points in 32 minutes. Shonte Hailes finished on top for the Lady Eagles with 17 points; she also led the team in steals with three and had the lone block for USM. Three Southern Miss players finished with two assists each: Camille Anderson, Hailes, and Megan Brown. Amber Landing and Kelsey Jones continued to be forces for the Lady Eagles, putting up six and eight points, respectively.
