HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will continue its homestand Friday at 4 p.m. CT against Prairie View A&M, and seniors Jorman Reyes, Youssef Tamimount and Teeradon Tortrakul will be honored prior to the match. Admission is free.
Each of the three seniors were ranked in the top-three among junior players in their native countries (Reyes in Ecuador, Tamimount in Morocco and Tortrakul in Thailand). Both Reyes and Tortrakul have been with the program their whole four-year careers. Reyes compiled 56 singles wins over his first three years and this season boasts a team-best 7-2 record.
Southern Miss is coming off a hard-fought defeat to New Mexico State, falling 4-3 in an epic battle that snapped a three-match win streak. Southern Miss did manage to take the doubles point for the fourth-straight match, improving to 15-17 this year after a 7-14 start. Tamimount made his singles debut against the Aggies on Sunday and put forth an impressive 6-3, 6-4 sweep.
The Golden Eagles and Panthers share several common opponents in UT Rio Grande Valley, New Orleans, Nicholls and UL Lafayette. PVAMU head coach Duane Williams has led the team to SWAC titles in 2010 and 2013 in his tenure.
Southern Miss will next embark on a three-contest trip to Houston where it will face Rice, UTSA and UAB in the C-USA Showcase from April 5-7.
