Lady Eagles Take on North Alabama in Round 2 of WBI

Southern Miss hosts for the second time in the WBI.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles are ready to get back in action in the WBI as they host the second round of play against North Alabama on Monday evening in Reed Green Coliseum, with tip set for 6pm.
The Lady Eagles (18-13) face North Alabama (20-8) on Monday after they came away with the win against Nicholls State on Thursday in Round 1 of the WBI. Southern Miss had four players score in double-digits and posted just shy of 50 rebounds and 20 steals against the Colonels. It all came down to the fourth quarter as Nicholls revved their engines and cut the lead to as much as one in the final section of the game. The Lady Eagles didn't give up and finished victorious in a 77-71 final. Megan Brown led the team with 18 points, Kelsey Jones had eight rebounds, and Daishai Almond led in assists with six. Shonte Hailes notably had six steals against the Colonels.
The Lady Eagles look to continue their WBI success against the North Alabama Lions on Monday evening. the Lions saw much success at the beginning of their season, boasting a seven-game win streak, starting it off on the road in their season-opener at Vanderbilt. They did it again in January, posting a six-game win streak. Their losses came against Xavier in overtime, twice against FGCU, twice against Liberty, at Stetson, and against North Florida at home. They won their first-round WBI game 64-57 against Georgia State at home. Many of the Lions' points come in the third quarter, with 563 coming in the third overall this season. Their top player is Ivy Wallen, who leads her team in points and assists. Their leading rebounder is Brittany Panetti, with Kenysha Coulson only one board behind her.
By popular demand, Southern Miss alum John Eze Uzodinma II will be performing the national anthem for the Lady Eagle game. He notably performed the anthem on his violin to open the proceedings of the Mississippi House of Representatives on Mar. 19, to which he received a standing ovation.
