HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team opens the home portion of their Conference USA season this weekend when they welcome Old Dominion to Pete Taylor Park for a three-game series.
In what promises to be a great weather weekend, the Golden Eagles and Monarchs are set to play at 6 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday, and at 11 a.m., Sunday, in the finale.
The two teams have played eight times in their history which dates back to a Southern Miss 2-0 victory in 12 innings in the 2015 Conference USA Tournament at Pete Taylor Park. The Golden Eagles leads the overall series 8-2, after sweeping a three-game set over the Monarchs in Norfolk, Va., last April.
The Golden Eagles (12-6 overall, 3-0 C-USA) have captured four-straight victories and eight of their last nine games, including a three-game sweep of Louisiana Tech last weekend as well as a midweek victory at home over ULM during the stretch.
ODU (15-5, 1-2) comes to Hattiesburg with a pair of home midweek victories over Princeton and bring a .297 team batting average, along with a 2.78 earned run average for their pitching staff into the weekend.
The offense has been solid for Southern Miss as of late, collecting 10 or more hits in each of the last five games, hitting .323 as a squad during that stretch.

Junior catcher Bryant Bowen (Shreveport, La.) has also come on as of late for the Golden Eagles with a .357 average and two home runs with 10 RBI.
The Golden Eagles expect to pitch the trio of junior right-hander Walker Powell (1-0, 3.05 ERA) in the opener, senior right-hander Mason Strickland (2-0, 7.27 ERA) and freshman right-hander Gabe Shepard to throw the final two games.
