
Southern Miss Softball Set to Host South Alabama in Midweek Contest

The first pitch between the Golden Eagles and the Jaguars is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT).
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (15-12, 2-4) will host Sun Belt foe South Alabama (10-15, 1-5) in a midweek contest on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

Tuesday's game will mark the 20th meeting between the two schools on the softball diamond.

The last time on the diamond
The last time that the Golden Eagles took the diamond, they came away with a 2-0 series finale victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Sunday.

Junior right-handed pitcher Abby Trahan led the way for the Golden Eagles, tossing a complete-game shutout. Trahan surrendered just two hits, issued two walks, struck out nine in seven innings pitched and earned the win.

Lacey Sumerlin and Sarah Van Schaik provided the offense for Southern Miss in the contest. Sumerlin gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead after smacking a two-out RBI single to center field in the bottom of the first inning.

Van Schaik tacked on the Golden Eagles' second run of the game when she lifted a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the third inning.

Noteworthy moments
After a spectacular week in the circle, Abby Trahan was named C-USA Pitcher of the Week for the week ending, Sunday, March 17. Trahan is the first Southern Miss softball player to receive one of the weekly C-USA awards this season.

Trahan's nine strikeouts that she recorded in Sunday's game against Florida Atlantic tied her season-high.
