Baseball Looks to Keep Winning Streak Going with Non-Conference Foe ULM Tuesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After sweeping Louisiana Tech on the road last weekend, Southern Miss baseball looks to continue those winning ways Tuesday night when they entertain ULM for a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
The Golden Eagles, winners of seven of their last eight games, outscored the Bulldogs 27-15 in the three-game series to improve to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Golden Eagles have now won 15 of their last 16 C-USA series dating back to the 2017 campaign.
Behind six hits from both senior Hunter Slater and junior Matthew Guidry over the weekend, Southern Miss collected a total of 40 hits versus Louisiana Tech including a season-high tying 14 in each of the first two games of the season. They raised their team batting average from .251 to .272.
Freshman right-hander Gabe Shepard (0-0, 6.75 ERA) is expected to get the start for the Golden Eagles against the Warhawks (7-12), who were swept by nationally ranked Coastal Carolina at home last weekend. ULM will counter with junior left-hander Cole Martin, who is 0-2 with a 7.82 ERA and making his fourth start of the year.
Leading the Warhawks is former Golden Eagle player and assistant coach Mike Federico. He is in his second year at the helm of the ULM program.
This will be the first meeting between the schools since 2015 and the Golden Eagles lead the series 47-18, which dates back to the 1949 campaign.
