Golden Eagles Start Texas Swing at Incarnate Word On Monday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With Spring Break in full swing for Southern Miss, the women's tennis team will head to Texas for a three-game road trip next week. The Golden Eagles (7-1, 0-0 CCSA) will start the trip against Incarnate Word (4-5, 0-0 Southland) on Monday morning at 10 a.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a win at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College eight days ago. The 7-0 onslaught featured singles wins from Rikeetha Pereira, Tjasa Jerse, Ansastasija Cobanovic and Monique Burton. In total, the Golden Eagles dropped only one set in singles play and had two wins by forfeit in the last two pairings. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Pereira also dominated at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3. Katia de la Garza and Burton followed at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 win.
De la Garza leads the Golden Eagles with a 6-0 record between No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Pereira has posted a 5-1 record on court two this season. In doubles play, Pereira and Yazgan lead the team with a 7-1 record, while six of those wins have come at No. 2 doubles. Arina Amaning and Jerse have accumulated a 5-1 record at the No. 1 position.
Scouting Incarnate Word
The Cardinals head into Monday's contest winners of four of their last five. One of those wins came against LA Tech, a Conference USA foe of the Golden Eagles. On March 1, Incarnate Word fell to McNeese State, 7-0. Jelena Dordan and Sara Djurdjevic lead the Cardinals with three wins at No. 1 doubles. Dordan, the top singles player for them, has posted a 3-2 record. Monday will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
Following Monday's match in San Antonio, the Golden Eagles will travel across town to battle UTSA in their first conference match on Thursday.
