HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Just a week after playing the programs first-ever beach volleyball game, Southern Miss (0-3, 0-0 CCSA) will hit the road for a four-game tournament in Covington, La. The Golden Eagles are joined at the Digs Volleyball Complex by Huntingdon, New Orleans, Nicholls State and Spring Hill College.Â
Against Coastal Carolina, the first-ever Southern Miss beach volleyball game, Abbey Wilson and Cyan Blackdeer went down in history as the first-ever Golden Eagle pair to win a game. The pair swept Anaiah Boyer and Lucy Campbell in convincing fashion for the lone Southern Miss point of the game. Of the four other games the Golden Eagles lost, three of them went the distance to three sets and all three of those sets were decided by three points or fewer.Â
Kinsley Hanback and Chloe Klusman won the exhibition match against Coast Carolina in the Saturday meeting, but the win did not count towards the team score. Piper Matsumoto and Kellie Garraway escaped with a three-set win against Spring Hill in the nightcap of Saturday's contest. The two tallied the lone Golden Eagle point, but three of the other four matches went to three sets.Â
Scouting HuntingdonÂ
The Hawks head to Covington without a win to their name, but have been involved in two games that were decided by a 3-2 score. Amy Tyma and Lexie DeVuyst paced Huntingdon last weekend with a pair of wins against Jacksonville State and North Alabama. April Reese and Alexis Creasman recorded wins against the same teams at the No. 5 pairing.Â
The Hawks capped off their 2018 season with a win over Mt. San Antonio College at the AVCA Small School Championships.Â

The Privateers, who are the host school, open up their 2019 slate this weekend with nine returners from last season. The 2018 squad went 8-19 and dropped their final two matches of the season to Houston Baptist. Three of the four girls that saw time at the No. 1 pairing return to aid New Orleans in its search for the programs first winning season.Â

Like Southern Miss, Nicholls State is in its inaugural beach volleyball season. The meeting between the Colonels and Golden Eagles will be just the third-ever game for Nicholls State and the six in Southern Miss history. Nicholls State will not host a home game the entire season.Â

Scouting Spring Hill
Less than a week ago, Spring Hill and Southern Miss battled in Mobile, Ala. The Badgers walked away with a 4-1 win, while Garraway and Matsumoto snagged a Golden Eagle point. Payton Gidney and Kassandra Fairly have jumped to a 3-0 start at the No. 1 pairing to pace the Badgers.
