Joey Kirkland Places Tied for Ninth at Louisiana Classics

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Freshman Joey Kirkland (West Monroe, La.) fired a third round, one-under par 71 Tuesday to lead Southern Miss over the final day of the 34th annual Louisiana Classics being played at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La.
Kirkland finished the 54-hole event with a 218 total, posting a 9th-place tie in the event. It marked his first Top 10 finish in a collegiate event longer than 18 holes.
Sophomore Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and junior Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) collected scores of 75 and 77, respectively, to both end the tournament with 226 scores and a 49th-place tie.
Matt Lorenz, a junior from Gulf Shores, Ala., carded an 81 over his final 18 holes to place tied for 74th with a 232 total and senior Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas) added an 83 for a 238 three-round score and an 83rd-place tie.
The Golden Eagles posted a team score of 304 to end their tournament with a 901 to tie for 12th with Toledo.
Southern Miss returns to action March 11-12 at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
